March Garden Diary

African iris. February 1997.
March 12, 1997. Our African iris plant has produced many flowers in recent weeks.

There are new needles on the bald cypress.

There are new fringes on the fringe tree and new red bottle brushes on the bottle brush tree.

Many flowers are on the bougainvillea supported on a trellis and growing from a pot, but there are no flowers on the other bougainvillea plants.

The Indian hawthorns and the sweet viburnum are in full flower.

New leaves have recently appeared on the parkinsonia tree.

Some flowers on the golden trumpet tree are nearly ready to open up. There are also a few tiny leaves. Not yet producing leaves are the yellow poplar tree and the gingko tree.

Cluster of flowers on camphor tree. March 15, 1997.

Each flower is actually only about one-eighth inch in diameter.

March 18, 1997. Some small new leaves have appeared on the yellow poplar tree.
March 22,1997. Several dozen flower clusters have appeared on the white spirea bush. There might be a great many more if the bush were not partially shaded by a laurel oak tree.
March 23, 1997. The gingko tree has begun to leaf out.
March 28,1997. Flowers have appeared on the English dogwood bush and on the sweet bay magnolia tree.
