The Central Florida Amateur Gardener

May 1998 - Ranunculus

Ranunculus bulbs were planted in this sunny location at about the same time that some paperwhite narcissus and some grape hyacinth bulbs were planted in other locations in the garden earlier this year. The ranunculus plants were the last of the plants grown from these bulbs to produce flowers. The photograph was taken toward the end of April. By the middle of May, there were few ranunculus flowers left.

Butterfly weed flowers, a jatropha tree, and a golden dewdrop bush can be seen in the background. Some angelonia flowers and strawflowers appear at the lower right.

The butterfly weed plant in the photograph is one that was chewed up by monarch caterpillars last year.
