We acquired this pictured species of Amaranthus and a candy corn plant as potted plants some time ago but never transplanted them into the ground. The Amaranthus plant was set in a lightly shaded location but died back last summer. New growth appeared later in the year. The candy corn plant was placed in a bed of ferns under a laurel oak tree. The flowers began to appear in December. Left outside, both plants survived the January 6 freeze during which the early morning temperature dipped below 24 degrees.
