Our sweetbay magnolia has produced many flowers this spring. If it is desired to have a variety of trees in a small area, this tree has the advantage over the southern magnolia of being more slender and thus of taking up less space. The sweetbay magnolia flowers are very fragrant, but they are smaller than those of the southern magnolia.
