June Garden Diary
June 4, 1997. There are a number of Virginia creeper vines growing here and there in the garden. Of these, the only vine with berries is the one growing around the trunk of a tall wild cherry tree.
A firecracker plant adds a little color to the northeast corner of the garden.

Anise tree: flower and leaf. June 5, 1997.
This is an evergreen tree with shiny leaves that is doing well partially shaded by a laurel oak tree. The yellow flowers appearing now are quite small and hardly noticeable among the much larger leaves.

Spanish needles plants are commonly found along roadsides in this area. We have just a few of these plants in the garden.
Abelia bush: flower and leaves. June 17, 1997.
This is the first flower on our abelia bush for this year. It is an attractive evergreen plant with shiny leaves. The young branches have a pronounced reddish color. The leaves and flowers are small.
Dwarf poinciana tree in flower. June 20, 1997.
In this current year, our potted dwarf poinciana tree began to produce new flowers early this month. It had some flowers on it when we purchased it in November of 1996.
