The
Central Florida Amateur Gardener

October 1998

Our Web page for this October features the Confederate rose (Hibiscus mutabilis). We planted one in a part-shade location and the first flower made an appearance on the 12th of this month. The interesting thing about the flower is that it is white in the morning and then gradually turns red during the day. The two picture-taking times were before 8 AM and after 6 PM EDT on October 12, 1998. By the morning of the 13th the flower was a deeper red, but it was shriveled up.
