January 1998 - Fuchsia Skullcap and Chinese Fingernail Sage
Two of the plants in the garden that are doing well now in the middle of January are the fuchsia skullcap (a species of Scutellaria) and the Chinese fingernail sage. The fuchsia skullcap was purchased from a garden shop last year and planted underneath the camphor tree. It produced flowers all through the summer and fall and is still in bloom. The plant has spread outward and is now about 15 inches high and a yard in diameter. The Chinese fingernail sage was purchased from an herb nursery and planted in the garden last fall.
