Broomweed

We have pulled up broomweed (Sida acuta) plants found growing as weeds here and there in the garden, but we let the specimen pictured at left continue to grow into a shrub. It does well where it is situated on the north side of the house and has survived one winter season. It responds well to pruning and produces an abundance of flowers that open toward the middle of the day and then close later in the afternoon. The close-up photograph of one of the flowers was taken earlier this year. The other photograph was taken this month (September 1997).
