About Smart Growth in Hutto and Round Rock

Hutto is a rapidly growing city approximately ten miles north of Pflugerville. Here are links to some Web pages related to planning in Hutto:
"Hutto's Smart Growth Plan" by Beth Wade, Community Impact Newspaper, October 10, 2008.
"Gaining from Growth in Hutto, Texas: Overview."
"The Ruse at Carmel Creek" in Eye on Williamson, October 24, 2007.
Here is one article about what is happening in Round Rock:
"City Explores Upgrading Downtown: Leaders hoping for a hub of businesses, shops, restaurants, and entertainment." by M. B. Taboada, Austin American-Statesman, January 12, 2009.
In the article, one can learn that a weeklong charrette is being led by the Los Angeles-based consultant Torti Gallas and Partners. The second page of a pdf posted by the consultant is entitled "Torti Gallas and Partners believes that housing is a right, parking is a privilege. We are part of the worldwide Park[ing] Day Movement to improve the quality of the public realm and take back the streets for people rather than cars." In the first page of the pdf, there is a picture of what had been done to a parking space in Los Angeles.

So Round Rock will be creating an "urban" town center that will help keep its "small-town flavor".
Whatever!
